Orchard

Good news before the trip:

I received an email this evening from Jon Tribble at Crab Orchard Review: I was one of three finalists for the 2006 Richard Peterson Poetry Prize and my entry (5 poems) will appear in the Winter/Spring 2007 issue of Crab Orchard Review, plus I will receive Crab Orchard's regular honorarium for poetry publication!
I also got an "almost, send more" letter from Prairie Schooner with an additional nice little note. I haven't sent out poems in what seems like years (this submission was back in April and the Crab Orchard entry was in March). I've been working so diligently on my MFA packets, that I've almost forgotten all about my "regular" writing life. When I return from CO, I plan to sit down with my new poems and think about where I would like to send them off to.

Reading(s)

We're soon off to lovely Estes Park, CO. We will be driving for 2 days to get there. We're going hiking. We're riding horses. We're going on a hayride. Yes, I said hayride. We're going to the Celestial Seasoning tea factory because that's what tea lovers like myself do. We're eating at a mountain cafe. We're sitting by the river and reading books. No computers, no cable, just us and the mountain air & night snows. Rumor has it that Bret Easton Ellis will be reading in nearby Boulder while we are there, so we may drop in for a listen and a signing.

Have you seen the new issue of PLR online? We're waiting to receive the issues back from our printer in NC. The machine they use to print the covers broke, which caused a delay. We sent the issue off on 8.31 & are now just waiting to get them back so we can send them out. (NOTE: All issue have now been sent out!)

Have you been to a reading along the Wave Books Poetry Bus Tour route? They're coming here in October and I can't wait. That same week, I'm going up to Austin to hear Brigit Peegen Kelly read. Denise Duhamel (a contributor to this issue of PLR) will be here reading in Nov. Readings all around.

PLR is now accepting books for review and reviews of books for upcoming issues. Books must have been published within the last year. Reviews must been 800-1000 words. See our guidelines for more information.
